Givenchy: Ricardo Tisci’s Gothic Glamour

In the world of fashion, as in any, really, your reputation precedes you. The hardest part of it all is working at one of the Grandes Maisons, labels specialized in haute couture that have been around for a while now. Why? Because there are a lot of expectations, like, for example, “Will s/he be able to keep up the brand’s style and add his/her personal touch?” or “Will s/he just imitate the previous designer”. But hey! The good news is that this is just at the beginning, when the public is sort of testing you. If you survived a whole year, you made it. There are even some times when the acceptance is so big the designer becomes the maison, like Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel or Ricardo Tisci and Givenchy.

1) Look A

Givenchy is one of the big legends, and belongs to the classics-with-a-style-not-so-classic; well, no, what could be classier than Holly Goligthly’s (Audrey Hepburn’s) beautiful black dress at “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”? Yes my friends, a Givenchy production. Being completely honest, I recently watched “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and that’s were I thought to myself: “Hey! Why haven’t you written about Givenchy?” So here I am.

After Hubert de Givenchy, founder of the label, John Galliano (former Dior Creative Director) took it over, but it was until 2005 when Givenchy’s Womenswear division passed to Tisci’s hands.  In 7 years, Ricardo Tisci has shown us a new both, glamorous and gothic face of Givenchy that we love more and more as seasons go by. Want to love it too? Parfait! Here, from the Spring-Summer 2013 Prêt-à-Porter Givenchy Collection, my Top Three:

2) Look B

1) Look A. Interesting indeed. I love the blouse. The cut of the upper layer is unusual, but it completes perfectly the look along with the halter underneath. Halter blouses make your neck look longer, stylize your torso and give the illusion of leaner arms. The transparencies used are a trick to make them think you’re not showing anything but then again, you are. Also, see how the layer on top is bigger? It is so because that way people perceive the body covered with the halter is smaller (in other words, thinner). The metallic brooches give it a futuristic taste, don’t they? Though I’m not sure about the detail on the neck. I mean, it does reflect light, but then again, makes the neck look thicker, counteracting the effect of the halter. What do you think? I adore the shoes. That barefoot appearance is the perfect to go with the artificiality of the rest of the outfit. The skirt is really pretty, pencil cut with the piece of fabric on the front that sways along as you walk. The metallic brooches in this part of the look make you focus on the central part of the body, marked by the part of fabric that hangs at the center of the skirt and is smaller than the whole piece, making you look thinner. Again, layers.

2) Look B. Turtle neck to make the neck appear longer. Sleeves that open at the end for the visual effect of smaller hands. Stitches at the center to divide the body in two and make the torso appear smaller. Stitches under the shoulders to make the arms appear leaner. The star of this outfit is the skirt (same as the previous one) and it’s tail. Look how it flows with the wind! If only life could be like that!

3) Look C. Now, this is what I was talking about! Hello, Gothic princess! The upper part is gorgeous! Look at the detail on the neck! Wow! So many faux necklaces and the fact that they’re in dark colors, make the neck look longer. The bagginess on the upper part of the body is meant to contrast to the faux belt on the waist, so it appears to be smaller. The fact that the skirt (from hips to the edge) isn’t wider than the top makes us look thinner.  The black jeans underneath are just to make it casual, but here’s an interesting effect you may cause if wearing leggings: Tell me, where are the knees? The legs seem longer than they really are, making us look taller and generally, slimmer.

I’d certainly explore my dark side wearing Givenchy, I mean, wouldn’t you? Gotta go, crazy diamonds! And remember, shine all over and dream on because that’s what we’re meant to do! Lotta Love. Ciao!

Altuzarra: The Fashion World's Capricious Boy

Today we’re going to talk about a relatively, new talent: Joseph Altuzarra. Altuzarra worked as an intern in Marc Jacobs after sending his resume to the company in a whim. He consolidated his career as designer for Givenchy, even when he didn’t have such a warm welcoming to the company, why? Because he hadn’t studied fashion like everybody else; fun fact: He actually majored in art. No wonder he’s got such an extraordinary vision!

Altuzarra is not afraid of experimenting and innovating over and over again. His designs are quite unorthodox, but, oh, God! Aren’t they wonderful!

Wanna take a look? Alrighty! Here it is, from the Summer-Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear Altuzarra Collection, my Top Three:

1) Look A. Whoa, the jacket!!! You can wear it either putting your arms inside the sleeves or, as we can see on the image, not! It adds movement to the walking, plus a lot of poise: it sort of reminds us of the preppy boys, doesn’t it? The rest of the garment ‘s got a rather traditional cut. I love the patterns, but remember, if you’re a little bigger than usual, they’re definitely not a good idea. What is a good idea is the t-shirt underneath, for example: long V-neck, vertical lines, and hidden by the layer on top. The skirt is classic as well, but look at the belt: Genius! The belt helps us look slimmer by being wide at the edges and thin at the center. Why? It produces this “v” effect that makes us believe the waist is smaller. Tell me what the heart of the outfit is? The clasp of the belt (which becomes he point of the “v”). Also, thanks to the belt it seems you’ve worn the skirt up to the waist, which is all the glamour without the discomfort.

2) Look B. Wow! I fell in love with this outfit. Skirt up to the waist with a large edge belt-like on the upper part, a little black jacket that works the same way as the previous outfit, and that beautiful blouse. Love the golden frills and the aperture on the chest (it divides it into two and makes us look leaner). The neck detail (haltery) is always a good option because it outlines the neck and makes it look longer. Plain colors, especially black, favor any body structure.

3) Look C. Now, this is what I was talking about when I mentioned imagination! The golden top with fake scales is amazing! Pros: The relieve hides any tummy you might have. Cons: The relieve makes your body look bigger. Where’s the skirt up to? That’s right, the waist! Attention! Be careful and make sure the gap on the bottom is small; if it’s open you’ll look pretty large because it will follow the fall right from the hips, which happens to be a very wide body part. Gap on the bottom small? How do I even walk? That’s why Altuzarra placed that strategic opening on the left side of the item. The final detail is that sort of scarf she’s got on the right side of the upper part of her body and tied around her waist, falling gently on the hips. Falling on the hips? It makes them look bigger and therefore, your waist looks smaller. Covering the right side of the top is another mind trick: it makes our brains believe the model is as thin as the part of the golden top that shows.

Versace: Little Black Dreams

Whenever somebody talks about Italian fashion, three labels pop into my mind immediately: Gucci, Armani and Versace. Now, I’ve already spoken about Gucci and Armani, so it’s about time to complete the holly triad with a post dedicated to Gianni Versace’s legacy. Why hadn’t I written about it yet? Because, to be honest, I didn’t like their haute couture fall/winter 2012-13 collection (Sorry!). The thing was that the colors used at their designs were too bright for the season. I know fall/winter isn’t synonym of opacity, but it’s certainly necessary.

1) Look A

Why? Well, have you noticed how when it’s really hot wearing dark colors makes us feel like we’re getting cooked? That’s because dark colors absorb light, which goes through a process I’m totally unfamiliar with that ends up turning luminosity into heat. What most of us want during fall and winter is to be nicely warm, right? Unless you live on the southern part of the hemisphere where there’s sun and fun, which makes Versace’s fall/winter haute couture collection perfect for you. Bright colors reflect the light, so it doesn’t capture it and no extra energy is heating up our bodies.

2) Look B

The comical thing is that Versace’s prêt-à-porter fall/winter 2012-13 collection is based on a dark palette, mainly black, one of my favorite colors. I know we’ve been checking out Summer-Spring 2013 collections, but the weather has become really cold lately and I thought, “I love all new collections, but this climate inspires me to write about fall/winter instead.” And so I’m doing. Here’s my Top Three from Versace’s prêt –à-porter fall/winter 2012-13 creations:

3) Look C

1) Look A. Simple but complex at the same time; futuristic yet classic; bright and dark at the same time: a complete paradox. The cut of the dress is pretty simple, what makes the garment a real something is the detail on the upper part of the outfit, that silver horseshoe shaped detail. What is it that makes it great? This bright thing reflects the light into our faces, eliminating shades and therefore, making us look younger. As we can see, the rest of it is black, which every woman knows helps us to appear to be thinner. The plus here is that the faux metal feature on top outlines the figure, so when we see the person wearing we focus on the darkest part and our brain thinks: ”Oh! That’s a really teeny tinny body.” Another thing, see where the horseshoe-like element ends? Right under the ribs, right before the waist. What does this do? Generate the illusion of a longer torso, a leaner body and a smaller waist. 

2) Look B. Another paradox. The cut is traditional, the faux metal downward “T” is the modern touch that revolutions the whole outfit. The horizontal light colored line is in the same place the horseshoe detail of the previous dress ended, see? It has the same purpose: leaner body, taller woman, smaller waist. The vertical line right in the middle of the chest divides it into three perfectly equal parts. Vertical lines will always make you look taller and thinner, specially if it’s only one in the middle, because it cuts you into two and instead of seeing one full-size bloc, we see two little ones.

3) Look C. This piece leans more to modernity than to classics, even though the cut is, like in the previous dresses, traditional. The neckline is wide and goes a long way down, which could make the upper part of your body look bigger than it actually is. The details that define the waist and go from the lower half of the breasts right to the hips delineate and redefine the shape of our body, creating curves even if they’re not there. See how they outstand at their ends (upper and lower)? That’s because the metallic edges, being so bright and out, make the breasts look bigger and the hips look wider.

What has Versace taught us today? That it takes one meaningful and unique thing to revolution your whole image and transmit your essence. Have you found it yet?

Last week a very important event inside the world if lingerie took place, any guesses? That’s right! The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show at New York City. One of Victoria’s Angels is Miranda Kerr, who arrived extra chic to the rehearsal of the event even when she’d have to change a couple of minutes later to jump on the runway. Her outfit was such a hit, that she was qualified as one of the best-dressed celebrities from November the 5^th to November the 9^th by British Vogue (http://www.vogue.co.uk/spy/celebrity-photos/2012/11/5/best-dressed---09/11/12).

Honestly, I fell in love with her style. Why? Because it’s super easy to copy and fits any kind of body, a hard thing to achieve, really. It’s fresh, young, comfy and classy. Let’s break it down, shall we?

 

Who is Miranda Kerr?

An Australian model that has been part of Victoria’s Secret’s Angels since 2007! This girl debuted at age 13 and even appeared in Project Runway by 2006. Recently featured a Kanye West video.

What is she wearing?

Leather black shorts, gray t-shirt, blue denim shirt, gray jacket, black translucent tights and Isabel Marant Cow-girl boots.

The leather black shorts make her legs look longer. The jacket is longer than the shorts so the whole person appears to be taller. The boots are an excellent choice because they focus on showing the contour of the legs, as well as the black translucent tights.

Wearing layers on the upper part of the outfit is very clever. Why? Because the denim shirt and the gray jacket make us focus on the center of the body, which is the gray t-shirt. The part of the gray t-shirt we see is so small it tricks our minds into believing Miranda’s much slimmer than she actually is. It sort of makes us think that the portion of torso covered by the gray t-shirt we see is the only portion of torso there is.

Love how the t-shirt matches the jacket. The denim shirt standing out forms two vertical blue lines that make Miranda look taller and thinner.

She’s following the three colors rule, which establishes you’re allowed to wear no more than three colors in your outfit. This adds uniformity to the look and makes it look simpler (thus, elegant), even though it’s a very complex combination of elements.  

How to copy?

This one’s pretty easy. Wear mini shorts with black translucent tights and boots (even Converse boots).

Remember the three colors rule! You can match up to three colors on your outfit for a safe classic choice.

If you’re doing the layers thing, the last layer has to be the longest and the first one the shortest. The layer in the middle has to outstand so it really helps outline your body.

Oh, Miranda, when I grow up I want to be twice as fashionable as you! (Yes, twice ;) )

Balenciaga: Time For Evolution

So guys, have you heard the news already? Nicolas Ghesquière, creative director of Balenciaga since 1997, is leaving the brand! That’s right! This Summer-Spring 2013 Collection is the French designer’s last collaboration with the label. That is like, what? 15 years of working together? Wow! I certainly didn’t see that coming, did you? Anyway, I found this out on Monday and I thought: “I really have to make a homage to Ghesquière’s art this Thursday”; so here we go.

Balenciaga’s last Ghesquière’s creations’ Top Three:

1) Look A

1) Look A. Like it? I do, very much. The perfect “V” collar for the top is wonderful at creating the illusion of a longer neck. The pattern is all right. It’s perfectly logical they’re combining a darker color at the top with a lighter one at the bottom; remember why? Darker colors tend to make us look slimmer, while lighter colors work the other way around. This way, the ribs and waist look tinny and the hips seem to be generous. The skirt is tightened at the waist and falls gently all the way down to approximately 10 cm. from the knees. Even thought the fabric isn’t playful or moves along, the lines it has modify with each step, making it look a lot more dynamic. Why does she look so tall? Not only because of the height of the skirt, the vertical lines help… a lot! And combined with that neckline… Poof! Killer combo!

2) Look B

2) Look B. Patterns all over. The piece on the upper side of the outfit has a very classical cut: round neckline, no sleeves and pleats at the front aligned with the ribs produce automatically a thinner torso. Love the graphics; quite Byzantine. The blouse is a little baggy at the waist, which is perfect because the skirt is tighter and in fashion as in life, you have to look for equilibrium always. Remember! Proportions. The lower part of the outfit is a different story. I really don’t understand how come they look so good together being so different! The garment sort of reminds me of petals of peonies, so chic and elegant! See how the edge is black? It tricks our minds into believing the skirt is shorter, but wait! She’s not showing more skin! So it makes us think she’s taller as well. Pretty clever, huh? And see all the pointy ends? Movement that facilitates catching eyes. Designers, those geniuses!

3) Look C

3) Look C. Pretty pretty dress. Wearing it is like being dressed in a cascade or never ending rain. It’s similar to the one before, the same edges, and the same style of collar and sleeveless. The black line under the hips accentuates them (which is very important because the cut is too straight and can make our bodies look a little too square), plus, the optical illusion is here again: short dress? Not! Light color equals enlargement, right? That’s why there are so many black vertical curvy lines (movement, again due to the cut of the dress) and that’s why there’s a big black patch in the middle of the chest. See the shape of the patch? It gets smaller at the end, and that’s because little ribcage generally is a sign of little waist. Again, insinuations here are very important because of the shape of the whole thing.

So what do you think? We’re going to miss Ghesquière intelligent compositions? Of course we will! But hey! That’s how fashion works, right? Constant changes, pure impermanence. This isn’t the end of Balenciaga; it’s just the end of an era inside of it. You know what they say: “every ending is just a new beginning”. I’m dying to know who is going to be Ghesquière’s successor! And well, it’s obvious that I’m more than looking forward for next year’s Fall-Winter Fashion Week to see the evolution!

Follow Balenciaga’s example, crazy diamonds! Change constantly because innovation is the only possible way to development and improvement. Shine all over and dream on like I know you do. Lotta Love.

Dolce E Gabbana: Simplici…what?

Dolce E Gabbana are a legend. I mean, seriously, who hasn’t heard of them? (If you haven’t, please continue reading. You owe it to your sense of style). What’s even more amazing about them is that they used to be a couple; just picture that! Fashion created by the power of love (and not any kind of love, the Italian kind of thing). They recently broke up, like 7 years ago or something. I was like: “Wow! If Dolce e Gabbana didn’t make it, what chance do I have with anybody?” But oh well, you know what they say: seasons change and people change no matter what you believe. Like Buddhism teaches us: nothing ever remains the same, not the good things, not the bad things. Pure impermanence.

1) Look A

We can say the same thing about fashion, right? There are so many things we might not like about a season or a collection, but we can always give it some time and voilà! New tendencies, new shapes, new textures… But we have to be open to see the change here. Imagine how it would be if you get mad to a designer just because the last collection was, according to you, a complete mess? What if you decided then that you didn’t want anything else from that label? And what if next season was absolutely amazing and you missed it because of your little drama?

Girls (and boys, if any), fashion is life: constant changes, lots of tragedies, lots of joys, lots of rage, lots of pleasure; it’s a matter of who you are and how you wear it (or live it). I strongly believe a true fashionista can turn any outfit into a runway look, as I believe a really successful person can make it with almost nothing.

Almost nothing? Certainly not Dolce e Gabbana!!! They created the adjective “massimalismo”, which would be the antonym of “minimalism”. So? So that means they believe more is better; hard to believe, right? It’s even harder when we hear everywhere that we have to keep it simple. But wait! Don’t go and hang everything on you as if you were a Christmas tree! You have to do it like the pro’s, and I’m going to show you how. Here, from the Spring-Summer 2013 Dolce e Gabbana collection presented in Milan's Fashion Week, my Top Three:

2) Look B

1) Look A. The dress!!!! It screams “SUMMER” so loud it makes me feel sad we haven’t even gotten to winter! And look at those earrings, for goodness sake! They are one of a kind. Remember, long earrings help your face look “longer” (not in a “long face” sense), so wear them if your face is really round or sort of squared, they will really help you out. Also, it’s recommendable to tie your hair when wearing them, just so they can be appreciated. The high-cut helps dissimulate the tummy and the openness of the sleeves and the skirt make the model’s extremities look thinner. No mention the girly and naïve touch they add to your walking. I’d say the fabric is silk, which helps a lot to the movement. Square cleavages make you look wider, so wear them only if your shoulders are small and your back and breast are petit. The brightness of the colors matches any type of skin, and the patterns are put in a way they don’t cause any distasteful visual effect. Pretty, really pretty.

2) Look B. Mamma mía! It screams Italia. The pattern on the blouse is strong but it’s ok because it isn’t all over it, it leaves some clean space to equilibrate the whole thing. It reminds me of some festive bright kind of baroque. Those sleeves are one of the best choices, because our arms look tinnier and longer. See the neckline? It’s completely straight, and it’s a great choice for anybody. It makes our necks look longer.   The high-waist shorts are excellent, because even though the piece is short, the high-waist makes it look like it ends up at a reasonable height, plus it makes our hips look wider, our waist look smaller and our legs look longer. Again, openness; they almost look like a skirt, don’t they? Just looking at the outfit makes me feel the summer breeze already. I love it. I just love it. Do you need more reasons? I don’t, I just love it.

3) Look C.  Massimalismo! Now, this is what I was talking about. Look at all the details on the skirt! Again, they add a playful movement to your walking. And those colors? They cheer anyone up. I like the fact that this outfit has texture, because, it’s even more unique. Not anyone dares to wear such bold clothing. This is the kind of skirt that ends up wearing you if you don’t have the right attitude. The blouse is cute but “simple” (yes, simple even with all those golden flowers all over it). What makes me call it simple? The colors. They belong to the same gamut. It’s a perfectly fine choice to match this skirt. Anything more complex would totally turn your outfit from "Wow!" To "Ouch!". And have you seen the earrings, I love those earrings. Bold, like everything Dolce E Gabbana do.

As we have seen, Dolce E Gabbana design for strong, secure women. It requires a truly bright character to not be outshined by those clothes. Remember, clothing is supposed to magnify your light, not dim it.

OMG! This next season is going to be mind blowing. We’ve seen so little designers so far and I’ve loved all of them! Beautiful garments make my day, I swear.

Fashion is a portrait of us. The way we dress says so much about who we are, you wouldn’t believe all the messages we send to others with a pink blouse instead of a black hoodie. Do you know that when we have a conversation, what the other person understands is 16% speech and 84% body language, facial expressions, voice modulation and clothing?

Every celebrity (you name it) has its own personality, which makes him or her outstand among the rest. The Rich & Famous always know how to impregnate their look with their personality, that’s what makes them so easy to remember. Think of Lady Gaga or Cher. Their clothes are crucial. Are your clothes a reflection of your Psyque?

“Copy Cat-Walk” is a brand new section of “I’m Too Editor’s Choice”. Here, our favorite looks (modeled by our beloved celebrities) will be dissected so you know how to include some of their key elements to your closet. Are you ready?

For the premier, our opening dissection will be done to Poppy Delavigne in CHANEL (of course).

But first things first:

Who is Poppy Delevingne?

British model, socialite and CHANEL ambassador.

What is she wearing?

Short black long sleeved straight cut dress made of transparencies and lace, with a black “body” underneath it. Wearing the whole thing instead of two-piece underwear (traditional or not) is way better. You’re showing too much skin already, so when wearing something like this, cover the part of yourself that attempts to be covered.

I love transparencies (as many of you may know) and this is not an exception. They make us look so elegant and classy yet contemporary at the same time! My favorite part is the length of the skirt. I adore little dresses, skirts and shorts! They stylize our figure so much! We look taller and thinner and with some killer legs. The shoes are the right pair because they’re covered all the way, leaving only the legs exposed (no “feet skin” is shown).

Dresses like this are everywhere and even if they don’t have the transparency, the design is really good and favors almost everybody.

So you’re walking around Manhattan following your customary path to your favorite coffee shop at Central Park, right at Columbus Circle. All of a sudden, around the 36^th, you realize there’s more traffic than usual, so you wonder what may be going on. As you approach the Upper Manhattan, the air gets thicker, filled with the most marvelous scents: a mixture of peonies, jasmine, magnolia (Chanel nº5? Miss Dior?), lace, silk and ribbons. Could it be? You check your agenda. OMG! Checking twice just to be sure. Is it time already? You take out your smartphone and tap on the VOGUE app. Yes, your senses had it right: The Fashion Week is here.

Why is Fashion Week like Prom? Because both of them are the most important events in their inner circles, and just like almost every high school girl dreams of the perfect Prom night, every fashionista waits quite impatiently for the next Fashion Week (C’mon, lets face it, we have more Fashion Weeks than high school girls have their beloved Prom). What’s is it about these events that makes them so desired? Well, they make every girl feel like living a Fairytale.

Beauty is one of the strongest magic spells we can be victims of. Think about how you feel when you see your favorite flower, a sunset across the fields or the sea or the mountains, a genius photography or a perfect tableau, a gorgeous dress, the face of the man of your dreams… For some reason, during this two events everything beautifies to the point were we’re practically doped by the atmosphere; everyone’s happy and smiling and laughing so we’re happy and smiling and laughing as well.

Why is Marchesa like the Prom Queen? Because “she doesn’t even have to compete like everyone else—she just prettily reigns, laughing and waving naturally all the way down the runway in her custom Louboutins.” (Voguepedia) The proof is at its Spring –Summer 2013 Collection, as juvenile and cheering as ever.

1) Look A. White swan! Didn’t you think of “Swan Lake” when you first saw this? Or maybe, I don’t know, the first flower of spring! I mean, just look at that dress! So fresh, so clean, so innocent & so pure. The high-waist cut makes every single woman look fitter and taller with longer legs, not just the pretty mannequin. The lace at the top makes the dress a work of art, look at those details! I love how, even though it shows a lot of skin, it doesn’t look vulgar at all. The fabric is just perfect for the season; see how it is super weightless and how well it reflects light? Spring is about going out of our homes to enjoy fine weather and be free! This outfit certainly inspires freedom.

2) Look B. WOW! Far too beautiful to be true! These fringes are magic!!! Not only they dissimulate the little stomach bump you may have, they also add a delicate enchanting movement to your average walking. Have I ever mentioned how I totally love the “Charleston Girl” look? Wow, it’s like “Swan Lake” (yes, again) meets “Singing In The Rain” with a tsarine mode on. The lace detail at the neck takes care of any accessories we may need; and see how it goes all the way just below the belly button? That makes our body look longer, slimmer and equilibrated (because it breaks the dress vertically into two). It’s short but not too short and MY! Look at those shoes! Love at first sight does exist; I just fell for this outfit.

3) Look C. Say what? You don’t want to be the center of attention? I’m sorry, because with this dress, you’ll turn EVERY HEAD. Again, high-waist cut and fringes, and yes, you’ll seem taller, slimmer and (if that is possible), classier. The golden edges reflect the light to your face, so you look happier. Look at the fabric fringes! See how they turn and fall? They will hide the waist you may not have and will give you the hips you’d love to. It’s sort of futuristic with a pinch of Art Nouveau, and of course, VERY elegant.

So, what is it I love about Marchesa? Unlike the usual Prom Queen, her dresses can be worn by ANYONE (who can afford them), meaning your body shape doesn’t matter because the clothes adapt to it. That’s genius to me; I strongly believe clothes have to adjust to us, not the other way around. Bravo, Marchesa!

Well, at the end of this post I can happily say I added a new label to my list of favorites, and you?

Are you familiar with this name? Well, I must admit I wasn’t until a couple of months ago. The first time I saw one of his designs was, obviously, on a page of a VOGUE Magazine, and since then, I just kept tripping on images of his beautiful designs almost every time I flip a page of a fashion magazine. It’s natural if a few of us are not related with this label because it’s only seven years old. Wow, right? So recognized in such a short period of time! Well, that’s what talent grants you, my friends.

1) Look A

Valli’s designs are complex (generally composed by more than one layer and more than two textures) and very womanly. The dominant colors of the Spring-Summer 2013 collection are golden, white and red. The effects? Transparencies. Texture? Fabric flowers. Cuts? To the waist.  Generally I try to vary the sort of clothes I choose for the top three, meaning I usually pick looks composed by pants, chemises, blazers, skirts, sweaters and dresses. This time, however, I chose what I think summarizes the best Valli’s style: Dresses.

Ready or not, here we go! The Top Three:

2) Look B

1) Look A.  “SPRING IS HERE!” or so it seems to shout to the world. The first look is this fabulous, classy and super girly white flowered dress. The faux- V-cleavage makes the upper part of the model’s body look longer- as if needed. I love the fact that is a fake cleavage because if it had that cleavage instead of the circular neckline it actually has got, it wouldn’t be as elegant; I mean, the skin would be just a little bit too much. The frills a the waist help dissimulate any abdominal bump existent, helps your waist look smaller and your hips look wider. The cut at the front of the skirt differences it from an average pencil skirt, giving it movement and a kind of relief that makes it unique –plus, it makes the walking easier-.

2) Look B. Hello, tsarine! I picked this dress because it makes the transition from season to season easier; meaning the designer still keeps some details from Fall-Winter on this piece. Examples: Long sleeves and the baroque look of the faux red jacket. Also, the color combo; I don’t know why white and red remind me of Christmas time. Anyway, the whole thing is beautiful: Look at the red flowers detail! That lace is exquisite. The white fabric is ideal for this season, why? It’s very thin and fresh, plus it reflects the light of the sun giving us a precious nacre glow. The pin-up shorts underneath the dress are an excellent idea, because we can still use the transparencies to our favor- a woman’s legs are the hell of a weapon- and look super graceful and zero improper.

3) Look C. Roses. The first thing I thought when I saw this dress was: “Roses”. Look at it closely; the detail of the skirt makes it look like the petals of one of the most romantic flowers that ever existed. The lace gives a sensual air to the whole piece, and the transparencies, again, keep it from showing a little bit too much. Transparencies are perfect for eye-illusions; they mock our senses badly. For example, take a look at the lace part just under the draped skirt: it’s got a pointy end and leaves uncovered the upper part of the legs. Frontal pointy ends in skirts aren’t very recommended, and even less when they show that much of our legs, but hey! You know what! Here’s transparency to save the day, turning a not-such-a –good-idea to an oh!-wow-I-must-have-it.

It sort of reminds me of Valentino and Elie Saab, what do you think?

Well, I hope you enjoyed meeting a label that promises to turn into a legend in the fashion world.  I certainly did.

Oh! I wanted to apologize, I know I promised to write three times a week but I find it impossible with such little free time. I learned my lesson: only make promises you can accomplish, be careful not to overestimate yourself- believe me, it happens more often than you may think-. What I can promise is writing the best posts on every Thursday, ok? Again, I’m truly sorry. I am.
